About Calligraphy
Calligraphy, as an ancient art form, encompasses the beautiful and expressive practice of writing, often characterized by skilful and artistic penmanship. Rooted in various cultures and traditions, calligraphy emphasizes the aesthetic qualities of lettering, where each stroke and curve holds significance. Copperplate and Modern calligraphy represent distinctive styles within the broader realm of calligraphic art.
Copperplate, originating in the 18th century, is known for its fluid and graceful script characterised by slanted, oval-shaped letters. This style gained popularity in formal writing and invitations. Modern calligraphy, on the other hand, is a contemporary take on traditional scripts, often incorporating a more casual and dynamic approach. Modern calligraphers may experiment with different tools, colours and styles, allowing for greater personal expression.
Both Copperplate and Modern calligraphy showcase the enduring allure of this ancient art form, adapting to contemporary tastes while preserving the intrinsic beauty of handwritten letters.
